DIY – workshop tabletop

Hello Thursday! This week has been super efficient for me in terms of decoration and DIY’s. I almost finished the Christmas preparations, I made plenty flower arrangements, I put up shelves, I added stuff in the kitchen and I – made a tabletop! The one pictured below, underneath all the mess :)

We had a table standing outside on the terrace, a table I bought at Ikea for inside use but ended up outside, and who didn’t quite take the rain and thunderstorms this fall. Water got in underneath the tabletop and it looked really ugly. In the same time I asked to myself, why on earth did I buy a table to use for workshops if it wasn’t to use for… workshops? So I brought it inside but quickly realized that it was not going to work, the top was in too bad shape.

So, what to do? The legs are in perfect shape since they are in painted metal, so all I needed was to make a new tabletop! I went to the nearest hardware store and bought three 40 x 200cm pieces of pine that I asked them to cut up in two. Once back home I screwed them together with two 4 x 3 cm pieces in each end. I ended up adding one in the middle too but no picture of that. By the way, my DIY’s post are not really like “step-by-step” guides or anything like that, I forget to take pics of steps, I do mistakes that I need to fix and the result is sometimes somewhat crappy. But I love it, I have fun and it’s useful.

Once I unscrewed the old table top from the table legs, I just lay down the new one on it and started the staining in old oak. No wait, before that I did the most fun part, hammer on it to make holes and marks! I wanted my table top to look a bit old and used so I just went a bit crazy! The whole thing was so easy to make, took me about an hour and costed me 36€ for the wood and the stain! Kinda good deal, right?! Call me Mrs Ikea hacker if you want! :)

As I said earlier, I tend to forget to take some pictures and I didn’t take one of the final result… smart right? But if you read my latest post you could see it already! I’m really please with the result and we have a completely new, old table to paint, craft and get messy on!

Coucou jeudi! Cette semaine a été super efficace pour moi, j’ai presque fini tous les déco de noël, j’ai fait plein d’arrangements floral, j’ai mis des étagères dans le salon et la cuisine et j’ai fait – une table! Celle-ci au dessus, en dessous tout le bazar! :)

On avait une table sur la terrasse que j’avais acheté à Ikea pour utiliser comme table pour moi et les kids quand on fait des ateliers, mais un jour de bbq cet été on l’a mis dehors. Mais depuis quelques semaines je me demandais pourquoi au monde j’ai acheté une table pour faire des ateliers dessus si on ne le fait pas? Donc je l’ai mis en haut dans notre salle de jeu juste pour réaliser qu’elle était beaucoup trop abîmée pour rester comme ça. Donc – quoi faire? Bah facile, j’ai enlevé le dessus abîmé, j’ai acheté 3 planches de pin en 40×200 cm, j’ai demandé qu’on me les coupent en 6, j’ai tout vissé ensemble avec des tasseaux puis j’ai remplacé le vieux haut de table avec la nouvelle. J’ai martelé un peu pour faire des marques de “vieillesse” et puis j’ai lasuré le tout en couleur vieux chêne! Voilà! Une nouvelle table! J’ai biensûr oublié de prendre une photo du résultat final, je réutilise une photo d’il y a quelques jours… Mais, maintenant on a une table pour créer, dessiner, peindre et faire des ateliers de toute sorte!
